Through Kidz Klub we've had the privilege of seeing not only individual kids, but also whole families won for Jesus. Karen's story highlights how it happens...

Each week we make over 1500 home visits. These visits enable us to practice what we preach - demonstrating the love of God with our words and our actions. As friendships are built and trust is won, we get numerous opportunities to pray with people and share testimony of God's goodness. One hundred and fifty mums and fifty dads come to our evangelistic Mum's and Dad's nights each term. In an inner-city area, that's pretty good going by anyone's standard! While only about 20 parents have made a firm committment to follow Jesus so far, thousands of seeds have been sown. We know that if we don't grow weary of doing good, "at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Gal 6v9.

God has been at work in the family of Karen Kirwan for over 5 years. In March 2003 Karen became a Christian after her cousin Pauline died suddenly. In this time God has radically changed her life.

Karen says "Our Isobel, Jeanette, Pauline [cousins] and Mary [aunt] all became Christians within the last 5 years and it totally transformed them. In late January 2003 Pauline died of a brain haemorrhage. At the time I was spending more money on pot than food. I was there but not there. I’d been a Catholic for 43 years but it never meant anything, I’d said prayers and thought I was all right. At the hospital I was looking at Mary and Jeanette thinking something good has got to happen from this. After being around them at this time I thought whatever it was that they had I wanted."

" I asked Isobel if she had a Bible and she gave me one with ‘God is good’ written on it. I didn’t have much education and Isobel told me that before I picked it up I should ask God to help me understand. I’d said prayers before and I thought I had an all right heart. Isobel said to me "Sin is sin.You think you have it but you don’t, you need a one to one with God". I started reading the Bible at 10.30 that night; I started with Genesis and didn’t finish until 3.40am! I woke up at 7.30am and cleaned up with the Bible under my arm. I then went round to Mums, I said I don’t care what you think I’m going to church, I’m going to get a meeting with Sheila. I told Mum to get there. I wanted each and every one of them to have it. I wanted to tell everyone about it. Over the last five years I’d had about three other meetings arranged with Sheila but I’d never shown up."

"I had lots to give up but I already had made up my mind. I woke up on Thursday [next day] and put my drugs in the bin; I knew that if I wanted God, I had to do this. I stopped drinking for 6 weeks. My house had always been an open house, now it was the Bible that was always open there. Over the last 8 months my Mum and four of my sisters have all given their lives to Christ."
