Louise Everett from Reading sent us this report:
Kidz Klub Reading has had a real roller coaster of a year
so far. During March 2004 our numbers rose from an average
of 200 per week to 270+ with 96 new kidz coming on just one
session. However, in April, the nightclub we were meeting
in (The Matrix) was closed down and for three months we were
unable to meet.
On June 20th, we were able to start meeting there again and
now our church (LifeSpring) are hoping to purchase the building.
Our bid needs to be in on the 9th of July so please join us
in praying for our success.
Meanwhile our G12 youth groups are going well. We did our
first Encounter Weekend in May with nearly fifty kids coming,
mostly from non-Christian backgrounds and it was awesome!
On October 8th at Rivermead Leisure Centre, Reading, we are
organising a youth event called Revolution 1.
The youth event will feature; Thebandwithnoname, T-girl, Shane
Lynch, Steve Legg and much more. For more information, contact
Chris on; 0118 950 9051 or email us back on kidz@lifespringchurch.org.uk.
Jenny Brown from Eastbourne sent us this report:
The vision of Sportz Klub is to harness the enthusiasm of
children to play sport and to provide a safe and fun-filled
sporting environment anchored in Christian values. We believe
that Christian values learned while playing sport can provide
a fantastic foundation for life in general and so we include
themes such as teamwork, perseverance, success and disappointment,
goal setting and self-discipline in our Sportz Klub sessions.
Volunteer leaders are all members of Kings Church, many of
whom are sports people themselves wishing to use their sporting
ability to help others. A qualified coach heads each Sportz
Klub course.
The initial aim of Sportz Klub was to offer 10 week courses
to Key Stage 2 children in primary schools in Eastbourne.
Children come for 1 hour after school. Our current sports
focus is athletics, with sportshall athletics in the winter
months. Since September 2002 we have run 7 of these courses
in 3 schools around Eastbourne. We have also run 6@6
for a term, a multi-sport club especially for Year 6 children.
This has been partly funded by Barnardo's. We have also run
some sports afternoons in the holidays at our new sports hall
and plan to gradually make more use of this fantastic new
facility. Possible new clubs for the coming year include football,
badminton, short tennis and Sportz Minis (for 5-7 year olds).
We aim to feed new kids we meet into Kidz Klub, and also pick
up kids in Year 6 who are wanting to move out of Kidz Klub
into something new.
